PHOTOSYNTHESIS
It drives the engine of life on Earth. Plants, including Christmas trees, get their food through this process.
Where does it happen?
It occurs in the leaves of plants. In the case of Christmas trees, it happens in the needles.
-
How does it happen?
First you need sunlight.
Then you need carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
-
Roots and Christmas Tree
Then you need a plant, in this case, a Christmas tree.
Specifically, you need tree roots.
-
The tree roots absorb microscopic water droplets in the soil. They travel throughout the tree to the needles.
Photosynthesis occurs in the needles when these water droplets meet with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere – in the presence of sunlight.
-
The tree creates carbohydrates for food. And oxygen and water vapor are released.
People need oxygen to survive and Christmas trees provide oxygen.
Need other reasons?
- Christmas trees make the world beautiful. They beautify the farm and like these trees, they are ready to beautify your yard.
-
Worried that cutting a Christmas tree hurts the environment? Don't.
Young trees create more oxygen than old trees.
For every tree cut, the producer plants 2 or 3 new trees the following spring.
